Understanding Public and Money

Think of 'Public' as the percentage of people betting on each side and 'Money' as how much money is being bet. When there's a big difference between the 'Public' and 'Money' data, it usually means that the more serious bettors (referred to as 'Sharp Money') are favoring a particular side.

A-Bama's Analysis:

This'll be Matt Murray's first game in a Maple Leaf uniform after being traded from the Sens, but the Habs picked up a victory in his only start against them last year. Meanwhile, Jake Allen has proven himself capable of holding down the Leafs. Allen didn't record more than 2 GA in any of his three starts against Toronto last season, and the Habs covered the puck line in all. Take Montreal +1.5 at -120.

Matt's Analysis:

I actually think Montreal will be quite a bit better this season -- not predicting playoffs, don't get me wrong, but the Habs had a pretty solid offseason with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft in Juraj Slafkovsky and trading for the likes of Sean Monahan, Evgenii Dadonov and Kirby Dach to go with other promising pieces such as Cole Caufield. You can generally throw out the records in this rivalry as Toronto is just 2-5 in the past seven meetings. I'll take the puckline at just -115.
